Great Reasons to Visit Cortona

  1. Food: What can we say except Tuscan food is delicious and fresh and Cortona has a wonderful selection of restaurants.

  2. Wine: Go for wine tastings in Chianti, Brunella di Montalcino, Bolgheri, and Montepulciano

  3. Assisi: Head into Umbria to visit the religious pilgrimage site at Assisi. You can also see the monk’s cell where St. Francis slept in Cortona.

  4. Chocolate: visit the chocolate factory in Perugia, the home of Baci, which is Italian for “kisses.” Make sure to take the mini-tram up to the factory, a hit with the kids!

  5. Music: Under the Tuscan Sun Festival in Cortona in August and the Umbrian Jazz Festival in Perugia in July are always hot tickets.

  6. Etruscan Ruins: Visit the Etruscan ruins below Cortona and in nearby Chiusi, including the Museo Nazio Etrusco there.

  7. Shopping: Hit the designer shopping outlet mall about 20 minutes from Cortona.

  8. Lake Trasimeno: Spend time in and around Lake Trasimeno, especially at the quaint town of Castiglione del Lago.

  9. Florence and Siena: Head to Florence and Siena on different days to relive the Renaissance of these two great cities.

  10. Ceramics: Head to Deruta in Umbria for fantastic Majolica pottery that has been hand-made the same way for the last 600 years.
